earthborn — Shepard an orphan raised on the streets of the great megatropolises covering Earth. She were exposed to Element Zero ("eezo") at 14 and officially detected with it at 17, giving her biotic abilities. She escaped the life of petty crime and underworld gangs by enlisting with the Alliance military when she turned eighteen.


vanguard — A is a powerful combatant specializing in the offensive. They have access to various weapons and armor, as well as biotics, and focus is on taking down enemies with quick and brutal force. They are the front line of the squad, specializing in combat potential and using biotics to disable and soften up their enemies while shielding themselves from return damage long enough to dispatch foes in a hail of gunfire. The Vanguard wears light armor to start with, though they can upgrade to medium armor, and they may gain specialist training in shotguns and pistols. They can also equip advanced bio-amps to increase the strength of their biotics.

veteran — The Skyllian Blitz was a major assault on the human colony of Elysium in 2176 CE. A huge band of pirates, slavers, and batarian warlords, partly funded by batarian financiers, launched an attack into the Skyllian Verge, intending to destroy Elysium. The attack was partly a batarian reprisal for humanity's expansion in the Verge, and partly the result of tensions from the Alliance's pirate suppression campaigns.

The people of Elysium and the Alliance rallied to defend the colony. Small ground teams of marines on leave and Elysium's civilians managed to hold off the pirates, while the Alliance Navy engaged their vessels overhead. The ground teams had a much more brutal fight but still managed to hold out for several hours. When reinforcements finally arrived, the enemy turned tail and fled in what vessels they had left.

The aftermath of the Skyllian Blitz led to a major operation on Torfan two years later, to destroy batarian pirate bases.

ruthless — Throughout her military career, Shepard have held fast to one basic rule: get the job done. She's been called cold, calculating, and brutal. Her reputation for ruthless efficiency makes her fellow soldiers wary of her. But when failure is not an option, the military always goes to her first. Shepard sent 75% of her unit to its death and murdered surrendering batarians on Torfan.
